The time is finally drawing near for us to show the world that the
Taiwanese is a people of courage, in the form of protesting against Jiang
Zemin and its government's shameful violation of our basic rights. As we
have received more information on Jiang Zemin's schedule and the protests
organised by other groups, TSAUK has now planned yet more demonstrations,
please come and make our voice heard!
TSAUK's demonstration schedule:
Wed. 20th Oct. Banqueting House, White Hall, London
Thur. 21st Oct. No. 10, Downing Street, London
Fri. 22nd Oct. University Concert Hall, Cambridge
The meeting time for all three events are 10:30am; the assembling point
for the first two events in London is under the Nelson's column on
Trafalgar Square (nearest tube station: Charing Cross). Call 0498 904 821
if you can't find us.
Attached below are information on things to note during the
demonstration and the exact schedule of Jiang's Zemin's visit. The
committee has been informed that there will be some die-hard
members follwing Jiang wherever he goes so do feel free to join them if
you want. And please contact us if you have any further questions.
Best of Luck, to us all!!
Request for Cooperation
TSAUK's Demonstration against Jiang Zemin
Dear Participants of the Demonstration:
The demonstrations listed above have all been registered with the Police
under the name of the Taiwanese Student Association in the UK (TSAUK) and
are completely legal gatherings. As such, TSAUK, being the organiser of
this particular protest, is responsible for the actions of the
participants on that day and therefore requests your compliance with the
following rules which were agreed with the Police and set out to ensure
the aim of demonstration is achieved as envisioned.
1. No eggs, stones, or any other object to be thrown.
2. Stay within the area previously applied for while protesting.
3. Stewards, who presence is requested by the Police, will be assigned and
are responsible for external coordination with both the policing authority
and other organisations. Please do not hesitate to give any suggestion or
file any complaints to them anytime during the event. Report immediately
to them and the Police if you suspect any other group or individual is
trying to disrupt the demonstration by, for example, shouting chants
different from ours, challenging other participants verbally or
physically, distributing flyers other than ours, or waving different
banners and flags.
4. There will be three slogans on the banners:
a. China, Hands Off Taiwan!
b. No Political Robbery over Taiwan's Quake Tragedy
c. Taiwan is NOT part of China!
d. Taiwan's Future, Taiwan's Choice!!
We hope that there will be as little variation as possible, so that we can
get an uniform and clear message across. As this is not about politics in
Taiwan, we hope flags or banners of any political party will stay at home.
This would avoid confusion for the passer by and conflict within the
group. Similarly to ensure the media receives a clear message, there will
be an official press release from the organiser.
We hope that you will understand the necessity of these rules for the
smooth running of the protest. We thank you for your support in advance
and look forward to seeing you this Wednesday!
